Day Won

I don’t watch movies and tv shows like normal people. It takes me about three to four days to finish a movie because when I’m by myself, I only watch entertainment when I eat. I recently watched a show on Netflix called “A Man in Full.” It was alright, but the main character had a quote that was so good I wrote it down twice. The quote was, “Today’s the day I do better.”

Let’s get 2 work.

Human beings are creatures of patterns. When someone shows you something once, you can bet money that they will show you the same thing again and again. Even though being a slave to habits is the case for most humans, it does not have to be the case for you. You do not have to be controlled by your habits and you don’t have to go through life on autopilot. YOU have the POWER to break free of your patterns simply by believing that “Today’s the day I do better.”

The quote does not imply that you do significantly better or even do moderately better, it merely suggests that you just, do, better. If you only do ONE small thing today better than you did yesterday, regardless of if that thing is something that only YOU may notice, guess what, you’ve still won the day.

So, how does one do better?

Today’s the day you start taking control of your mind and your first goal is to cast down just ONE negative thought. Pay attention to your thinking and when something pops up in your mind in which you know to be a false narrative, say to yourself, “That’s not true!” If the thought is true, determine ONE step you can take to start the process of quieting that negative thought. “As a man thinketh, so is he.” (James Allen) Next, today’s the day you start saying NO to the things that do not serve you. Your second goal for today is to say NO to just ONE thing you know isn’t good for you and is something you normally say yes to. Say NO to that fast food, say NO to that cougar who uses you as a sex slave and gives you nothing back in return…you got this, say NO to wasting time scrolling on social media before bed. Don’t worry about the problems of tomorrow or how you will be better next week, all you need to do at this present moment is focus on winning… TODAY.

Is breaking patterns and habits easy? Fuck no! But look at it like this, the man who moves a mountain begins by carrying small stones.

“TODAY’s the day I do better.”

Day ONE…Day WON.
