On Saturday, I went fishing with my brother and my nephew. As we were wrapping up and getting ready to go, I received a text from a female. She said to me, “My dad barbequed, would you like a plate?” I believed her text to be right on time because we were fishing all day and I was starving. I quickly replied to her, “Yes.”
Fast forward two hours later… I never received the plate.
With that said…
Never allow what seems good to distract you from what is right.
Let’s get to work.
The barbeque plate my female acquaintance offered me was a good thing that distracted me from the right thing. What was the right thing in this situation? Getting my own fuckin’ food like I normally do.
Because something is good does not mean it’s right for you. As Youtuber and author Soul Immortal says, “A man must answer the questions, who am I and where am I going?” This is the foundation of a VISION. When you know who you are and where you’re going, you can always determine what is right for you and what is merely just a distraction.
For example, let’s say you make the decision to become a pilot. That means that your “I am” is a pilot. In other words, when you ask yourself “Who am I?” you will say, “I AM a pilot.” The fact that you haven’t literally become a pilot is irrelevant, all that matters is that you believe you are and that you walk every day in that belief. Where are you going? To pilot school so that you can learn to fly, get your license, and work either commercially or privately. So, now you know who you are and where you’re going. One day, you see a billboard on your way to school that reads, “Fire department now hiring, apply now.” Your father was a firefighter. Your grandfather and great grandfather were also firefighters. Needless to say, if you were to apply, you would more than likely get the job. This is a very good thing. Some would even call it a sign. This is also… a distraction. Why? Because it isn’t the right thing. What is the right thing? The right thing, though it may not be quick and/or easy, will always aide you in your journey to becoming who you DECIDED to be. Additionally, the right things will always help you get to where you DECIDED to go.
When a man cannot answer “Who am I” and “Where am I going” what is shiny will always entrap him, what is pleasurable will always attack him, and what is good… will always distract him.
