MOMENTO MORI

Yo, Yo, Yo. If this is your first time here, welcome. If you are a regular, welcome back. With that said, let’s get to work!

Imagine, if you will, that we are looking down…at your funeral. In conclusion of your service, the pastor gives 2 minutes to each and anyone who would like to come up to the stage and pay their respects to you. A line forms. One by one, people share fond memories, express what you meant to them, and close with kind words about you. The last person speaks, the pastor gets back on stage, he asks everyone in attendance to accept Christ into their life, dismisses everyone to your burial, and that’s that.

Now, this is what I would like to ask you.

Up there on that stage…did anyone mention how many ho’s you fucked? Did anyone mention how many Instagram followers you have? Did anybody talk about all the clubs and parties you went to? Or what about all the Netflix movies and TikTok videos you watched? How about the CEO from your job, did he come up to the stage and say how they were going to stop business for a day in honor of your memory? No? Nobody mentioned any of this? I’m shocked.

Seneca, stoic philosopher of ancient Rome, states the following, “Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.”

Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.”

When you die, will people talk about how you positively impacted their lives, or will nobody give a fuck? Will you leave your fingerprint on this earth, or will it be as if you were never here? Did you share your gifts with the world, or did you selfishly waste them along with the little time you were given? How easy will it be for everyone to move on after your death?

You KNOW what’s important and what is not. You KNOW what serves you and what does not. You KNOW what you have to do. You KNOW who you need to be. You KNOW what is right. You KNOW most of the things that you’re doing currently adds no true benefit to your life or anyone else’s. You KNOW that purpose is everything.

Leave this world with nothing left in the tank. Spend each and every day becoming who you are destined to be. Master your mind, condition your body, feed your soul, and fulfill your heart.

Not tomorrow, not next week, not next year… NOW.

Momento Mori. “Remember you must die.”
