What Do You Want?

I almost quit my podcast earlier this week.

Why?

I have a real bad problem of not starting business ventures on my own. I always feel the need to collaborate with people. On top of this, I tend to want success for the people on my team more than I want success for myself. As no surprise, I eventually find out that my teammates really don’t WANT success at all and are just fine with their current situations. Unfortunately, by the time I realize this, the endeavor has already made substantial progress. At that point, I normally choose to give up rather than continue on my own due to some desire I have to self-sabotage. I did this when I was a rap artist running a record label and I did this when I was managing other artists. As fate would have it, here I am again faced with the same problem.

This week I had a decision to make. Do what I’ve always done and continue to be where I’ve always been, or… once and for all determine what it is I really WANT.

I have discovered that life gives you exactly what you want… except… it doesn’t give you what you want based on what you SAY, instead, life gives you what you want based on what you DO. Regardless of how much you may say that you want to be in shape, if you sleep as long as you want, eat what you want, and never exercise, your actions are saying to life that you WANT to be fat. Regardless of how much you may say that you want a healthy relationship, if all you do is watch toxic shit, listen to toxic shit, and entertain toxic shit, your actions are saying to life that you WANT a toxic partner.

So, back to me.

What do I want? I want to win at the game of life. Not for you, not for anyone else, for once in my life I want to win for me. For the longest time, subconciously, I have wanted to fail and I have wanted certain types of people around me who will help me do that. Life being the gracious entity that it is, it has given me exactly what I wanted.

Today is a new day.

I have made a list of my wants and I challenge you to do the same, try to be as specific as possible. When I was done with mine, I had 18 things that I truly wanted. If you do write this list, remember that it is your actions and not your words that gives life to your wants. Here’s an example of some of the things on my want list.

-I WANT to honor GOD with my gifts

-I WANT to efficiently manage my time

-I WANT to make past and future Walt proud

There is a strong correlation with success and selfishness. What I want today has less to do with you and more to do with me.

So, with all that said…. what do YOU want?
